Washington, DC (November 19, 2009) - As the health care reform debate shifts to the Senate, the American Heart Association encourages lawmakers to maintain the momentum for meaningful health care reform by beginning Senate debate on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as soon as possible.
While there are a number of issues that remain unresolved, we hope Members continue to strive to find common ground in the weeks ahead, and pass a Senate bill this year. The American Heart Association remains committed to reform measures that meet the needs of the 80 million Americans with cardiovascular disease and stroke as well as millions more who are at-risk for cardiovascular disease.
We urge Senators to support allowing debate to begin as a necessary next step to allow for a robust and critical dialogue on health care reform.
